Columbia REA and Shakespeare Walla Walla present the 2014 Mainstage Season, featuring new Shakespeare Seattle Company productions, and performed in the Gesa Powerhouse Theatre.
February 6-9, 2014 - Richard II
Shakespeare's lyric tale of an ill-suited king toppled from his throne, set at the start of the "War of the Roses". This production was directed by Shakespeare Seattle Company's Rosa Joshi.
April 17-20 - The Importance of Being Earnest
This "trivial comedy for serious people" by Oscar Wilde is a tale of double-identities, the pursuit of love, and a satire of Victorian society. This production will be directed by Victor Pappas.
May 3 - Such Sweet Thunder
This production, a collaboration between the Shakespeare Walla Walla and the Seattle Repertory Jazz Orchestra, will feature music by Duke Ellington, and local actors reading from the Shakespearean works that inspired them.
Summer Festival 2014
Shakespeare Walla Walla's Summer Festival will feature another Seattle Shakespeare Company production:
"Julius Caesar" (August 7-10)
An all-female version of this swift and enthralling political thriller portrays the life-and-death struggle for power in Rome. Fearing that a charismatic leader’s ambitions threaten the fragile state of affairs, a group of leaders plot to assassinate him. Caesar’s death sends the city into chaos, creating factions of power alliances. This striking examination of power’s intoxicating effects will leave you breathless.
