Shakespeare Walla Walla is currently accepting applicants for the Executive Director position. This is a paid, part-time position which works closely with the board of directors and helps to focus on the vision of Shakespeare Walla Walla.


Shakespeare Walla Walla Executive Director Position


The Executive Director is the key management leader of Shakespeare Walla Walla. The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs and strategic plan of the organization. Other key duties include fundraising, marketing, education and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

General Responsibilities:

  1. Board Governance: Works with board in order to fulfill the organization’s mission.

    • Responsible for leading Shakespeare Walla Walla in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission and vision.

    • Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

  2. Financial Performance and Viability: Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

    • Responsible for the fiscal integrity of Shakespeare Walla Walla, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

    • Responsible for fundraising and developing other resources necessary to support Shakespeare Walla Walla’s programs and mission.

  3. Organization Mission and Strategy: Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through programs, strategic planning and community outreach.

    • Responsible for implementation of Shakespeare Walla Walla’s performance, education, and community programs that carry out the organization’s mission.

    • Responsible for the enhancement of Shakespeare Walla Walla’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional, civic and private organizations.

  4. Organization Operations: Oversees and implements resources to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate.

    • Responsible effective administration of Shakespeare Walla Walla operations.

    • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent, qualified staff.

    • Responsible for facilitating all notes, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the organization as approved by the board.

Professional Qualifications:

  • A bachelor’s degree or higher

  • A passion for Theatre

  • Organizational abilities including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

  • Transparent and high integrity leadership

  • Knowledge of fundraising strategies and donor relations unique to nonprofit sector

  • Budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making and reporting

  • Theatre, education, or nonprofit management experience preferred

  • Ability to convey a vision of Shakespeare Walla Walla’s strategic future to staff, board, volunteers and donors

Specific Job Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and implement annual budget.

  2. Plan and develop summer camps and Shakespeare productions.

  3. Promote, sell and organize in-school residency programs.

  4. Organize various community events.

  5. Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.

  6. Establish administrative procedures for all functions and for the day-to-day operation of the nonprofit.

  7. Serve as Shakespeare Walla Walla’s primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media and the general public.

  8. Establish and maintain relationships with various organizations throughout the state and utilize those relationships to strategically enhance Shakespeare Walla Walla’s mission.

  9. Facilitate fiscal maintenance of the organization.

  10. Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility throughout the state.

  11. Supervise and collaborate with organization staff or hired individuals.

  12. Strategic planning, implementation and utilization of resources.

  13. Oversee organization meetings.

  14. Review and approve contracts for services in collaboration with the board.

  15. Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.


Position is currently 30 hours/week with a flexible schedule depending on projects and the potential for full time as funding becomes available.
